MAKIA like the other airport also witnessed a decrease in passenger traffic in the first quarter of the year 2006. With 32,135 passengers and 49,312 passengers that traveled on the domestic and international wings respectively, there was a 24% and 13% decrease compared to the first quarter of 2005.PROJECTS
- The new domestic terminal building under construction has reached 90% completion stage. It is hoped that the building would be completed before November 2006.
- Also under construction is a new fire station, completion of this building has been stalled by lack of funds.
- Resurfacing of the runway has since been completed; provision of new airfield lighting has also been made. With the completion of this project MAKIA boast of one of the best runways in Nigeria.
- Of the entire nations airport only MAKIA has a complete perimeter fence in place.
