FAAN RECEIVES TWO AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE
In recognition of its contribution to the development of Nigerian aviation industry, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has received two awards from two separate media organizations for excellent performance.
The News of the People Magazine, during its last 'Eminent Achievers Award 2010' conferred "the Chief Executive Officer of the Year" award on the Managing Director of the FAAN, Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun, while the Global Excellence Magazine awarded "Government Agency of the year 2009" on the Authority.
The Eminent Achievers Awards took place at the Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja,
The publisher of the News of the People magazine, Mr. Loye Amzat while presenting the award said the FAAN boss was honoured after passing the nominee certification process of the organization's awarding committee.
He explained that the eminent achievers award is a reward based product of the media organization's foundation, set up principally for the purpose of appreciating diligent and accomplished achievers in the country.
He added that the aim of the award was to stimulate and appreciate hard work and the pursuit of excellence amongst youth.
The Publisher and Editor in-Chief of Global Excellence, Mr. Mayor Akinpelu FAAN was rewarded for its contributions to the social and economic development of the country. Some of the achievements of the agency that made it carter away the awards include:
The introduction of a strong culture of budgetary discipline based on planned cash flows/budgetary projection which is aimed at ensuring among other things regular remittance of maintenance allocations to airports.
Initiation of the development of comprehensive land use plan/concession strategy for the airports. This is intended to ensure that development is deliberate and planned for.
There was implementation of zero tolerance policy on indebtedness by leading the effort on debt recovery at the airports. This was intended to reverse the illiquidity of FAAN which was already giving the Authority a bad image.
The Aisuebeogun-led management further facilitated the promotion of 800 staff between 2007 and 2009. A total number of 410 members of staff have been trained since his assumption of office.
The administration also gave priority to the welfare of staff including the payment of furniture grant and other allowances.
Also of remark is the improvement of air conditioning at the Arrival Halls of
